About ALOECTA Unit

The Algonquin Lakeshore Unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association represents about 800 Regular and Occasional Teachers who teach in 32 Elementary and 5 Secondary (also Adulty Learning Center with satellite sites and 2 outdoor education centres) which are publicly funded Catholic schools in Eastern Ontario. We are a member of the provincial OECTA and through this provincial body we are affiliated with the Ontario Teachers' Federation, the Canadian Teachers'Federation and Education International. We strive to protect the rights of our Teachers and ensure that their working conditions are fair.

Our district covers a wide geographical area of more than 16, 000 square kilometres from Whitney in the north to Picton in the south to Seeley's Bay in the east to Trenton in the west. The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic School Board (and this Unit) derive their names from the fact that we are located on the shores of Lake Ontario and stretch north to Algonquin Park. We are approximately 200 km east of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. There are approximately 12,000 students in the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic School Board.
