Algonquin Lakeshore OECTA Unit
Welcome to the website of the Algonquin Lakeshore Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association (ALOECTA). Thank you for taking the time to visit us. We hope you will explore our site, engage in learning about how OECTA and the Algonquin Lakeshore Unit are working to build a better future for all Ontario Catholic teachers. We invite our local teachers to join us in making that happen by becoming actively involved in unit and provincial activities.
"Our schools need help – there is no viable plan from this government to save them. Ontario students and families deserve better. This needs to be a wake-up call, before Doug Ford’s neglect and damage become irreversible.”
It is with great sadness and joy that we announce that Sheena Cassidy was permanently hired by Provincial OECTA. Sheena has been a member of the Unit executive and representing our Unit provincially at Council of Presidents for over 20 years. Very few people have contributed so much to the teachers in our Board over the years. We wish her much success in her new role but also miss the knowledge and experience she provided locally.
On December 19th, in accordance with the Provincial handbook, the Unit Executive made the following leadership appointments for the balance of this Executive term that expires on Jul 1st, 2025.
President: Daniel Graham
Vice President/Grievance Officer:
Kristen Hannafin
Elections for all Executive positions will be held in the coming months.
Algonquin Lakeshore Unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association covers 16,000 square kilometers, from Kingston in the east to Trenton in the west, from Picton in the south to Whitney in the north and represents about 950 Regular and Occasional Teachers who teach in 33 Elementary and 5 Secondary (also 5 adult Learning Centers) which are publicly funded Catholic schools in Eastern Ontario.
We are a member of the provincial OECTA and through this provincial body we are affiliated with the Ontario Teachers' Federation, the Canadian Teachers' Federation and Education International. We strive to protect the rights of our Teachers and ensure that their working conditions are fair.
Almost 40 years ago, a group of like-minded individuals came together to create OTIP, the Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan. Their goal isn’t to make money. They are a not-for-profit insurance advocate working for you and members like you. Members are their reason for being — helping them protect the people and things they care about with a full range of group and individual insurance products. They work with the best insurance companies to shape and innovate products and services specially built for you. As a not-for-profit organization, the proceeds they generate are used to fund valuable member-support programs. They believe that insurance built around their members is the best insurance of all. Every product and service they offer has been shaped and improved by their deep understanding of your needs.
